Lime Crime Love.

Any makeup fan has of course heard of the elusive makeup brand, started by eccentric makeup artist Doe Deere. Lime Crime is, in a sense, her baby. She has nurtured it from the ground up, picking every colour to her exact standards and making sure that every ingredient in each product is vegan, so it's no wonder that Lime Crime makeup is so original and interesting. Being an avid fan of Lime Crime and Doe Deere for several years now, I thought I would throw my two cents in and do a review.
as you can see, I've built up a fair collection.

To begin with, Lime Crime is the only makeup brand that I've kept the packaging of every item! It's all so beautiful and girlie. The lipsticks come in gorgeous purplish-pink boxes with a holographic unicorn on them, plus the Lime Crime logo on the top - also a unicorn.
These are also the only products I give a hearty sniff to before any application. It sounds strange, but if you're the owner of just one Lime Crime lipstick, you'll recognize the amplified vanilla scent off of them! Their smell is not dissimilar to the smell of MAC products, but even more so. It's amazing going on a night out with a Lime Crime lipstick on because you can smell it on your lips all evening!

(most of the photos courtesy of Google and some Miss Doe Deere herself. Oh, and please ignore dodgy photos/bad skin, I have mocks currently so my skin is suffering!)

Every order (yes, even international ones) come in this cute white and purple striped box filled with purple tissue paper and glitter.

n'aw. Cheers, Doe.

Raquel Reed wearing Lime Crime.
No She Didn't - a beautiful bubblegum blue lipstick that is my favourite unnatural shade ever. It's harder to get away with out and about because so many people notice it as it is so bright! I'm glad they made a light, pop-art style blue as apposed to the darker navy shades that other companies are producing, because believe it or not, I find No She Didn't is far more wearable because of its bright hues, and, as my mother puts it, 'doesn't make you look like a corpse', as I find with darker blues. This is definitely a shade for people who are a brave with their makeup and want to stand out, because trust me, in No She Didn't, you will most certainly stand out! Team with pastel pink or lilac eyeshadow and cat-eyeliner and you've got a unique and funky twist on the classic '60s liner and lipstick combo. I call it 'Candy-Coloured Pin-Up', and I certainly couldn't have come up with it without No She Didn't!

screen goddess, Miss Marilyn Monroe.
the gorgeous Audrey Hepburn rocking red.
Retrofuturist - Retrofuturist is the perfect red lipstick, and no, I am not bluffing. It is a true red that goes with almost every skin tone I have tried it on. I was really impressed because I didn't think I could wear red lipstick as I'm so pale it always used to wash me out and make me look ill. But not this one! This is an especially amazing lipstick as I am obsessed with old Hollywood and the screen-goddesses of the 1940s and '50s and Retrofuturist definitely brings this old-glamour to any look. I love it so much I had to order another tube of it around Christmas-time with my other Lime Crime goodies because I was running so low!

 Doe Deere modeling Airbourne Unicorn.
Airbourne Unicorn -  Initially I was apprehensive about trying this lipstick out, but after one of my absolute blogging idols, Audrey Kitching, wrote about it, I knew I had to try it out. Airbourne Unicorn has a similar pastel-colour to it as No She Didn't but obviously the opaque purple is slightly more wearable than the bubblegum blue. This is definitely one of my favourite lipsticks purely because the subtly of the colour means that you can wear it practically anywhere. In some lights it just looks like dark pink, but others show it as its true purple shade. I've even been known to rock it into school teamed with only concealer and mascara, getting 'is that purple lipstick, girl?' from teachers. It is the perfect non-pink lipstick. I recommend Airbourne Unicorn if you're like me and you don't like pink or nude lipsticks; this is the twist on the boring natural we were after!

My Beautiful Rocket - My Beautiful Rocket is my staple lipstick. My lipstick crush, if you will. It was gifted to me for my birthday by my mother in October 2010. Safe to say, I need to buy a replacement tube very soon! This pure orange lipstick, yes, pure orange, none of this 'orangey-red' bullshit, is amazing. It makes blue and green eyes pop like nobody's business! Plus, it goes on practically every skin tone like a dream. This, like all Lime Crime lipsticks, takes only one application, and because of the opaque colour, lasts and lasts and lasts! I love this lipstick so much it inspired the name of this blog!

this is one of my favourite photos. Audrey & Doe together.
little known fact: I find it impossible to keep my head/lips straight forward in photos.

D'Lilac - D'Lilac has been seen gracing the lips of the Queen of Madcap Style, Miss Stefani Germanotta herself. That is actually how I found Lime Crime Cosmetics. I saw this photo then trolled all over the internet to find out where I could buy a tube. Then, like a magical unicorn leading the way through a glitter-encrusted path, I landed on www.limecrimemakeup.com... and I have never looked back. This lipstick is a grey-purple colour, very different to anything I had seen before, so I knew I needed it! This, I find, is a shade that is harder to pull off if you have a rosy tint your skin. So much so, that even I, the Queen of the Goths (not really, but I am pretty fucking pale) need to white out my skin with concealer before I apply this lipstick. There is this photo of a darker-skinned woman wearing D'Lilac on the Lime Crime site that I'm obsessed and insanely jealous of, purely because it looks like a gorgeous rave-shade on her, lucky lady! Still, on the paler days, I can rock D'Lilac too.

Cosmopop- Cosmopop is a pretty, buttery orange colour, halfway between a nude pink lipstick and a bright orange, such as My Beautiful Rocket. Cosmopop, I would say that if you want to try a variation on your usual nude or pink lip, this is the one to try. The shade is so bright and opaque only one application does it, perfect! Team with a dark, smokey-eye to offset the light pigments in this shade and it's the ultimate 'night out' look.

Styletto  - this is the perfect black lipstick. Perfect. Absolutely amazing. I cannot sing its praises high enough. Not only with black lipstick being very in style right now (everyone from Gaga to Jessie J is rocking it), I have always liked the darker sides of makeup and fashion, growing up wanting to be Morticia Addams, plus, my latest makeup obsession is a character from the movie Repo! the Genetic Opera. A suave beast named GraveRobber who rocks whiteface, liner and most of all, black lips. The little mosher in me's heart skipped a few beats when I first saw his face, and the makeup addict knew I had to re-create it somehow... and because of all this, my mother got it for me for Christmas this year. I haven't taken it off since Christmas Day when I unboxed it. Yes, it is that good. The colour is perfect. True black. And the opaqueness puts all other black lipsticks to shame. You know those drug-store brand lipsticks that boast about being black, but really apply like shoe polish? Well not this. Smooth with a slight sheen. Plus, it makes my teeth look much whiter by comparison and  also my skin paler. Amazing.

Candy-Eyed Eyeshadow Helper - this little tub of eyeshadow primer came free with an order of lipsticks I bought about a year ago, and it still lasts! The consistency is perfect, just tacky enough to make sure all of your eyeshadow sticks but it doesn't leave those awful, creased lines on your lids after a few hours. The packaging it came in was so cute, a little blue box with a silver bow marked onto it, and the same with the actual tub. This primer boasts that it can make eye-makeup last perfectly for 12 hours, and trust me, this girl has done the leg-work to prove it. A few days after it came I decided to use it before going out on a night out with the girls. Now, I applied it around eight o'clock in the evening and when I staggered home at one in the afternoon the following day, it was still picture-perfect. The rest of me, well... not so much. The only thing that put me off about this product is has a slight medical, anesthetic smell to it, the same as Urban Decay's Primer Potion. Of course, this didn't really matter though, because the smell faded almost instantly, and who's going to come up and go 'hey, mate!' on a night out and give your eye-lid a sniff? Just trust me, Candy-Eyed Eyeshadow Helper is bitchin' and it's helped my eye-makeup stay in place on many a night out where the rest of me has fallen apart.

and now... the product I was most excited about... my Carousel Lipgloss! Due to mad-traffic on the site (I believe they were having a massive sale, but Doe was nice enough to tweet, thanking me for being patient... ha!) I could only get my hands on one, Candy Apple.

This was the one I was after anyway, as I was looking for something a bit sparkly but wearable as well. Candy Apple is a perfect darker red lipgloss with fine, red glitter running through it. Now, I know I keep talking about the smell of the products as apposed to the colour, but if you're wearing it under your nose all day, you're going to notice it! Candy Apple has this amazing vanilla scent that is so pungent you can smell it the minute you unscrew the cap! Yum!

It came in a beautiful foiled lilac and purple box, definitely keeping the 'carousel' theme going!
The texture of the gloss is quite thick, I presume in order to make it so opaque you can apply it directly to the lip without a lipstick undercoat (which I have to say, saves so much time), but with this it sacrifices the smooth, glossy feel I was hoping for. The gloss is actually quite sticky, which can get annoying when you're trying to eat or drink anything as you literally stick to the cup you're sipping from. Nevertheless, I have been wearing it a lot, layered over Retrofuturist. I think it's the perfect futuristic take on a the classic red lip, plus, who doesn't love a little bit of glitter?

Now, for the scores. I have been wearing Lime Crime since about 2009, and for me the colours have only gotten better and better. The entire makeup line went under a change in recipe and ingredients sometime in 2010 to make everything 100% vegan, which, being the carnivore I am, I didn't particularly care, but I must say, the texture and application of every product has been much better since then. I give Doe 10 out of 10 dancing cats for her lipsticks, another 10 out of 10 for her eyeshadow primer, and a further 9 out of 10 for her lipgloss. Keep up the good work, lady! I have yet the try one of her eyeshadows, but where there is a will, there is a way.

Congratulations if you made it to the end of this long post, and thank you for reading my madcap scribblings! If you enjoyed it, please follow this blog and if you like, my personal twitter, where I'm always wittering on about something: @KatRamone.

Fresh start.

Hello.
So, this blog has been down for about a year (with only four posts anyway), so I thought I'd reinstate it. From now on, you can expect anything from makeup and clothes hauls to album recommendations to film and television reviews. I can't wait to get started!
